Friday 23rd July 2021
Alton Towers Resort is gearing up to welcome guests for the ultimate Summer of fun following the arrival of Gangsta Granny: The Ride and entire Land inspired by ‘The World of David Walliams’, the Retro Squad pop-up experiences, and much more to provide memorable experiences not to be missed.
Gangsta Granny: The Ride and entire Land, inspired by ‘The World of David Walliams’ is now open! Based on David Walliams’ most popular children’s novel, Gangsta Granny: The Ride is a ground-breaking, brand-new thrilling family experience which sees guests join the main characters, Ben and Granny, as they attempt the greatest heist in the history of the world: to steal the Crown Jewels.
Guests set off on a remarkable tour of London’s Crown Jewels only to be swept-up in Ben and Granny’s exhilarating escapade. The multi-sensory experience whizzes, twists and spins through the sewers on a 360° special effect laden wild ride to break into the Crown Jewels vault. Passengers can see, feel, hear and even smell an electrifying and unique re-telling of the Gangsta Granny story. Guests descend with Ben and Granny into the sewers, are chased through the streets of London and even come face to face with the Queen: but will the madcap scheme succeed?
In addition, a whole area of the Staffordshire-based theme park has been transformed and features a host of other rides and attractions including the Royal Carousel, Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp, Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango, as well as the chance to pick up a crazy bargain in Raj’s Shop! In addition, Walliams fans can now enjoy an unforgettable overnight stay in the brand-new Gangsta Granny themed rooms in the world-renowned Alton Towers Hotel! The interactive experience includes the chance to crack the vault code to receive special treats.
If that wasn’t enough, The Resort has also unveiled a trio of retro rides for the 2021 season that make up The Retro Squad, providing fun-lovers with a spin back to the 80’s! The arrival of Mixtape, Roller Disco and Funk’n’Fly will give guests a blast from the past as they bounce, slide, fly and enjoy ‘funktastic’ thrills.
The Summer season will culminate with the return of Oktoberfest where guests can ride a selection of thrillful world-class rollercoasters and family faves, enjoy an awesome choice of delightfully themed entertainment for all ages and try some utterly delicious food. As the nights get darker, the theme park will host the fan favourite spooktacular Scarefest, where guests can expect all sorts of creepy scares, shocks and thrills.
For the ultimate Summer of fun, the theme park has also revealed the introduction of new, pop-up live entertainment across the Resort for guests to enjoy and get involved with throughout the holiday period. New characters, on-park games with the chance to win some fantastic prizes, as well as not-to-be missed giveaways will be in full swing in a bid to ensure guests have a season of fun to remember at Alton Towers Resort.
Alton Towers has also been nominated for 15 industry awards, including theme park of the year, best theme park for families, best theme park for toddlers, best theme park for thrill, and best new attraction for Gangsta Granny: The Ride and The Retro Squad.
